Die Nachtigall

Poem by Theodor Storm (1817–1888)

Music: Alban Berg ( Sieben fruhe Lieder)

Die Nachtigall

Das macht, es hat die Nachtigall
Die ganze Nacht gesungen;
Da sind von ihrem süssen Schall,
Da sind in Hall und Widerhall
Die Rosen aufgesprungen.
Sie war doch sonst ein wildes Blut,
Nun geht sie tief in Sinnen;
Trägt in der Hand den Sommerhut
Und duldet still der Sonne Glut
Und weiß nicht, was beginnen.
Das macht, es hat die Nachtigall
Die ganze Nacht gesungen;
Da sind von ihrem süssen Schall,
Da sind in Hall und Widerhall
Die Rosen aufgesprungen.

The nightingale

It is because the nightingale
Has sung throughout the night,
That from the sweet sound
Of her echoing song
The roses have sprung up.
She was once a wild creature,
Now she wanders deep in thought;
In her hand a summer hat,
Bearing in silence the sun’s heat,
Not knowing what to do.
It is because the nightingale
Has sung throughout the night,
That from the sweet sound
Of her echoing song
The roses have sprung up.

"Nähe des geliebten" von Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

I think yours, if I am the sun shimmer Radiates from the sea; I think of you when the moon Flicker Sources in paints

I see you when on the distant roads The dust rises; In the dead of night, when on the narrow strips The wanderer quakes.

I hear you, if there with a dull noise The wave is rising. In the quiet grove I go often to listen, If everything is silent.

I am with thee, thou art no matter how distant, You're close to me! The sun drops, soon I shine the stars. Oh, you'd be there!
